Interactive information service for wellness support: a research agenda

This article presents a research agenda concerning the introduction of telecommunications technology integrated with Web-based information systems for increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of diabetes treatment – the WellMate service. Hence this project has two major objectives. (i) to study the pharmacoeconomic benefits yielded through the deployment of information systems technology in outpatient healthcare processes, and (ii) to study how well the patient learns to use and accepts using integrated telecommunications technology and Web information systems (WIS) as an efficient means for diabetes treatment. The study is theoretically based on current pharmacoeconomic theory and information systems (IS) theory, in the latter case more specifically the role of training and learning for information technology acceptance and user satisfaction. The article presents initial research results from a pilot study, which then forms the basis for the design of the final research agenda.
